Introducing the Gee-Spot: Nike Air Force 1 turns 25
Nike Air Force 1 celebrated their 25th Anniversary on Thursday, 12 July 2007, in Commissioner Street, Jozi, and they spared no expense. All guests were chauffeur-driven from the parking lot to the door in Hummers, were then greeted by a host of photographers fighting to take their picture on the red (grey in this case) celeb-style runway carpet, and were then interviewed by "Hollywood" reporter, Muso (of CrazE fame). If this is what it feels like to be in Jessica Alba's shoes, then I want in!
The party itself was "off the hook" – not my words, but the general consensus of all the guests. The Nike staff were present en masse and kitted out in funky branded hoodies and of course, AF1's. Hip Hop Pantsula, who won this year's "Strictly Come Dancing," put in an appearance, but thankfully was not pimped out for the Tango. Tumisho Masha showed off his ball skills on the indoor basketball court, along with less talented individuals in high heels (to the girl who lost her stiletto in my foot, thank you for treading softly). But my outstanding moment of the evening was getting into the lift with Danny K and the lift operator (promo guy dressed in white suit and top hat), and discovering that Danny and the lift guy were wearing the exact same shoes – and we all noticed it at the same time...classic! I was a bit disappointed that my only parting gift was a warm fuzzy feeling deep inside (from a little too much Triple), and not a pair of AF1's, but it would seem that all the free samples were given to the real celebs.
Nike Air Force 1, congrats on your 25th anniversary and a great party, and to the rest of SA's events organisers, don't take a leaf out of Nike's party book – just buy the whole darn thing!
