Corporate rates for press campaigns
I was apporached by a large corporate recently to write a short press feature, as their usual consultant was not available. It was a lucky break for me, as they've apporached me again for more work. The company wants to re-use the original press feature in various publications, and as we did not have a contract drawn up, I am unsure of the procedure around payment for the re-use of work. They have asked me what it will cost them to re-use the piece, tailored of course to the different publications. Any advice would be appreciated. 21 Nov 2007

Who owns the right to use a photographic image?
I have just been through an experience with different photographers over the use of photographs once the photographer has been paid for the shoot. It seems that there are some who believe that it is their right to charge for usage, and usage in each different media or for each application. Other photographers are happy to be paid for the shoot and what use and where the agency and client put it to doesn't matter. Is there an industry standard and who owns what? I would be interested in hearing from photographers and agencies on this thorny issue. 15 Nov 2007

There was a lot of hot air from the SABC, Butana Khompela, Mzwakhe Mbuli and other hot-heads about the PSL's deal with SuperSport. But if you look at the situation now, the SABC is incapable of screeing midweek games featuring some of SA's top teams. I'm a fulltime Online (web) writer and freelance Journo (magazines). However, I'd love to land a fulltime job at a publishing house as a writer. I've been published by a number of well-established magazines and I'm working on a feature article for a well-known newspaper at the moment. I've tried submitting my CV for jobs at various publishing houses but I never seem to land an interview - most ask for a degree - I have a diploma and some other certificates.
