Rude recruiters forget their manners
How many times do you see this line at the bottom of a job ad: If you don't hear from us, consider your application successful. It is, quite simply, the rudest approach to recruitment. If someone takes the trouble to prepare a covering letter and send you their CV, which is a deeply personal gesture, the least you can do is to acknowledge that. And then, if they don't get the job, is it too much trouble to say thanks, but no thanks? I'm not in the job market myself, but would never work for a company that puts people skills so low on its list of priorities. Come on, recruiters - you say you prize people. Prove it.
