Festival du Film Français in five South African cities
The 2011 local Festival du Film Français takes place across five cities during the first two weeks of February 2011. It opens officially in Cape Town on February 2 and runs until February 7, with the same running dates for Durban and Johannesburg. It then moves to Port Elizabeth and Pretoria from February 9 to 12.
Its curator, young South African filmmaker Oliver Hermanus, has been tasked with selecting the movie line-up and has selected an offering of contemporary French cinema dating from 2008 to 2010. Amongst his selection are three avant-premières in South Africa, 'On Tour', 'Of Gods and Men' and 'Black Venus'.
Hermanus was the first South African filmmaker selected to participate in the prestigious Cinéfondation in Cannes and will return to Cannes this year as a guest of the French embassy. Hermanus will hold film workshops in each city.
