Operating as a terrestrial television channel since June 2011, Tshwane TV was looking for the opportunity to expand its viewership and, for DStv, the addition to its channel offering brings with it a variety of programming and local content.

"This is an exciting development for DStv, since not everyone in the Tshwane area has been able to receive the channel. Now subscribers will be able to experience this channel, not only in Tshwane but country wide.

Tshwane TV's schedule includes news (both local and international), lifestyle, culture, entertainment, education, actuality (informal knowledge building, talk shows and magazine programmes), children and youth, business, sports, religion and government-based programming and documentaries and short films.

Local and international

With six hours of prime-time viewing from 6pm to midnight, the line-up offers a mix of locally produced and international programmes within a multiple language format. (ie all the languages spoken in greater Tshwane - English, Afrikaans, Setswana, Sepedi, Tshivenda, Xitsonga and isiZulu).

"Our goal with Tshwane TV has been to establish an independent and sustainable community television station. While we have achieved this, one of our initial objectives was to increase our geographical reach and viewership through a partnership with existing broadcaster. We are delighted that we have achieved this through our agreement with DStv," says a spokesperson for the station.
