DStv cleans up in New York at Promax

From walking away with six Promax & BDA awards in 2004, DStv has increased its stake two-fold with 12 Promax awards - seven Gold, four Silver and one bronze as announced at the 2005 New York Global Conference and Awards Show, held at the Marriot Marquis in Time Square on 23 June. DStv is proud to be the only South African company to scoop this unprecedented number of these internationally acclaimed awards.

It seems like yesterday when DStv went on air for the first time and 10 years down the line, to share the stage with the likes of Disney, HBO and Warner Brothers is a phenomenal achievement. Graham Pfuhl, DStv's Marketing & Sales Director congratulated his team and the production house Studio Zoo on achieving such a mammoth task, he said, "there is no better benchmarking than against one's peers and as we celebrate our 10th birthday this year, accolades such as the Promax & BDA Awards are a strong indication that we are on the right course."

Thirty seconds in a promo is all it takes to engage the DStv subscriber in an informative yet witty manner. Koo Govender, DStv's Creative Services Manager said, "promos play an important role as they enhance desirability of the brand. The challenge is to engage our subscribers in a creative and emotive way but also enable them to derive maximum benefit from their DStv experience. Being awarded 12 Promax Awards is absolutely fantastic."

With 10 years almost in the bag, DStv subscribers can look forward to another thrilling decade of world-class entertainment.

DStv's awards were in the following categories:

2005 Promax World Gold Awards:

  • DStv's "Sound" promo was awarded Gold in the "Editing" category
  • The "DStv Compact" Press launch presentation won Gold in the "Marketing Presentation External" category
  • "Count on DStv Kids" won Gold in the "Promos & Spots - Children's Programme" category
  • "Make Time for Extravaganzas" was awarded Gold in the "Promos & Spots - Multi Genre" category
  • "Make Time for Movies" was awarded Gold in the "Promos & Spots - Theatrical Movies Released to Television" category and DStv's "April Movie Highlights" won Silver in the same category
  • DStv's "Sound" campaign was awarded Silver in the "Branding/Image Campaign" category
  • DStv's "Interactive Olympics" won Silver in the "Funniest Promotion" category and also in the "Promos & Spots - Sports Programme" category

    2005 BDA World Gold Awards:

  • DStv's "Touch Launch Promo" won Gold in the category "Promo for Interactive Television"
  • DStv's "Every Minute, Every Moment" was awarded Gold in the category "Salon de Refus"
  • The "E! Entertainment Launch Promo" was awarded Bronze in the category "Art Direction & Design: Image Promo"
