Peace through Tourism appoints Sibeko

The International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT) has appointed Public Relations Institute of southern Africa's former president, Victor Sibeko, as the interim president of its southern African Chapter (IIPTSA).

The International Institute For Peace Through Tourism (IIPT) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to fostering and facilitating tourism initiatives that contribute to: international understanding and co-operation; an improved quality of environment; the preservation of heritage, and, through these initiatives, helping to bring about a peaceful and sustainable world. IIPTSA's role is to arrange international events on the subject matter, invite sponsors, donors and community tourism stakeholders to contribute to its research and projects.

Study tour to the Caribbean

Sibeko's appointment coincides with the formation of Countrystyle Community Tourism Network South Africa (CCTNSA) and a 10-day educational tour to the Caribbean. The purpose of the study tour is to learn about the internationally recognised "Villages as Businesses" model of community tourism, which highlights the village lifestyle built on unique natural, cultural and human capital. Sibeko and a team of business catalysts leave for Jamaica on Monday, 13 February.

Sibeko has been tasked with the full establishment of IIPTSA in southern Africa through strategic liaison, of IIPT activities. Most importantly, to endorse and support CCTNSA initiatives in all its endeavours.

Louis D'Amore founder and president of IIPT said: "The IIPT is proud to announce the formation of the South African Chapter of International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPTSA).

As an accredited public relations practitioner and Fellow of PRISA, Sibeko served PRISA diligently. His relationship started way back as a Student Member to a Fellow of the Institute, the very last recognition honour only given by board's discretion. Sibeko is an entrepreneur, runs his own business.

Humbled and honoured

"I am humbled and honoured to become part of a globally respected organisation. This opportunity couldn't have come at a better time when South Africa is looking for sustainable job creation models," said Sibeko.

"It is an honour to become part of an organisation that touches people's lives and make a difference, willing to share its expertise and innovative ideas from experiences in Community Tourism Network," he added.
