Protein push drives Woolworths’ new Greek-style yoghurt launch

Woolworths is adding to its yoghurt range with the launch of new full-cream and low-fat Greek-style yoghurts, as protein continues to become a bigger selling point in the category.

Protein focus

The launch follows the growing presence of protein-focused yoghurt options, including Clover’s Authentikos Greek Style Yoghurt, which was introduced in 2024.

The new range is a first for Woolworths’ core yoghurt offering and is made with Greek cultures from Greece. While yoghurt produced outside Greece must technically be labelled Greek-style, Woolworths says its new range is made with just three ingredients: milk, cultures and protein.

Each yoghurt contains a minimum of 5g of protein per 100g and is made using rBST hormone-free milk. The range also contains millions of live bifidobacterium cultures, which, when consumed as part of a balanced diet, contribute to a healthy digestive system.

Taste and quality

“Protein has become an increasingly important part of how our customers think about the foods they choose but we know they’re also looking for great taste, quality ingredients and products that fit easily into their lives,” says Woolworths product developer Yumna Seedat. “With this Greek-style full cream and low fat range, we wanted to bring all of that together in a yoghurt that is thick and creamy, made with Greek cultures and has a simple ingredient list. It’s a product we’re really proud to bring to our customers.”

Woolworths has also introduced a Strained range made using the straining process, where the whey is removed to create its signature thick texture.

The full Greek-Style range includes Low Fat, Full Cream and Double Cream plain varieties in a selection of sizes, alongside an exciting addition of Greek-Style Strained Double Cream Honey, with a fat free version being added to the range soon.
