The search is on for a movie critic

Every once in a while dream opportunities come around. How's this one - win a chance to be the movie critic on a national radio station? Ster-Kinekor and Metro FM are looking for a hot new movie critic for the station. Only one person can get the job - a 6-month on air contract with Metro FM and behind the scenes access to the movie industry. But anyone can apply.

Called Cast a Critic, the search is open to South Africans over 18 who are passionate about movies and can carry that passion on radio. Entrants need call 082 288 9600 and record their movie review of any movie currently on circuit. A panel of industry judges will shortlist entrants who will then be required to submit a written critique.

Of those written critiques, the top 10 candidates will be chosen and spend a week on boot camp facilitated by industry experts - covering all aspects of the film industry, film critique and on air presentation. At the end of the week one person will win the 6-month on air contract with Metro FM as the station's official movie critic.

Commented Odette van Wyk, Ster-Kinekor Marketing Executive: "If the movie industry is to grow significantly in this country then we need to make it as easy as possible for people to access movies. Cast a critic is one such initiative. In South Africa not every media has it's own critic and certainly on radio they are a rare species. We're creating a fantastic opportunity to enter two of the most exciting and glamorous industries - radio and movies."

Added Lesley Ntloko, Station Manager of Metro FM: "Movies are fast becoming a key entertainment choice for our listeners and we want to find someone who can interpret, distill and bring that to life. It's a great opportunity because radio seldom opens its doors to the public offering the chance to be on air."

Deadline for telephonic entries if 19 November 2004.
