Celebrity wheelchair tennis challenge on Disability Day

On 3 December 2012, Wheelchair Tennis South Africa (WTSA) in conjunction with the Office of the Premier will be hosting a Celebrity Wheelchair Tennis Challenge at Johannesburg's Nasrec Expo Centre, AfricaNews reports.

WTSA athletes along with celebrities and members of the Davis & Fed Cup squads will be playing a tennis event in celebration of International Disability Day.

Wheelchair tennis is one of the few sports where able bodied and disabled individuals can compete with or against each other, and the event sets out to demonstrate how tennis gives physically disabled individuals the opportunity to participate in a sport that can be played regardless of age, gender, or level of ability.

Four teams, comprising of a wheelchair tennis player and an able bodied celebrity player, will compete in short format matches. According to AfricaNews, the Celebrity Wheelchair Tennis Challenge forms part of Disability Day celebrations hosted by the Gauteng Premiers Office, in which over 2000 disabled persons will gather to celebrate their Ability.
