Safa, CSA took too long to act on slack corporate governance

According to The Citizen, two low-key instances of communication from two of SA's leading sport federations, Cricket South Africa (CSA) and the South African Football Association (Safa), offered similar content, in the form of updates on improvements in corporate governance.

CSA called it "restructuring", while Safa opted for "re-engineering".

Corporate governance issues are an indictment of how ineffective South Africa's administrators have been in matching on-field deeds with sound decision-making off it, particularly CSA - who now boast a national side that is progressively realising the fruits that their class and abilities warrant.

While it is encouraging that the respective governing bodies have finally set out to streamline their operations, The Citizen remains puzzled as to why it requires striking, embarrassing sagas such as match-fixing investigations, bonus scandals and cash flow problems to prompt SA sport administrators to take action.
