This is the second time in a row that the restaurant has received the prestigious accolade by one of the world's most respected wine publications and adds to The Grande Roche's impressive list of awards.

Devised by Tobias Brauweiler, one of only a handful of qualified wine sommeliers in South Africa, the wine list, Bosman's wine list “reflect depth”, says Tobias. “ A good wine list, I believe, is not about having a lot of labels but being able to offer guests various vintages as well as a variety of styles.”

While he grew up in a beer-drinking region of Dortmund, Germany, Tobias became inspired in the art of wine during his apprenticeship for hotel management and by the time he joined the Four Season Kempinski Hotel in Munich had decided to enroll in an intense sommelier's course.

Two year's ago he was offered the job of sommelier at The Grande Roche and jumped at the chance.

“I love the whole complexity of wine and that everyone has a different opinion.”

“Guests staying at The Grande Roche simply want to try Cape wines - from sparkling to whites, reds and of course the Cape's fabulously sweet wines,” says Tobias who spent the entire July winter recess driving 4000km across the Cape, sampling 1200 wines on 85 estates to research and broaden varietals for the Bosman's wine menu to compliment the restaurant's fine cuisine.

“I love the whole complexity of wine and that everyone has a different opinion. Everyday is a new challenge as your palate changes with your mood - minute to minute. Once you understand a wine, then you can judge it. 2009 looks like it's going to be a great vintage for Cape wines.”

Built in the early 18th Century and restored to its original Cape Dutch splendour in the early 90s when transformed as a national monument into a luxury boutique hotel, the Grande Roche has recently undergone a matchless refurbishment to maintain its position as a celebrated international hotel under the management of the leading South African hospitality Mantis Group. Under the hand of executive chef, Roland Gorgosilich, and deputy, Etienne Bruwer - both of whom have worked in top Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe - guests will be assured of an unforgettable food & wine experience at Grande Roche, a hotel that has been singled out as one of the world's top dining destinations.

Along with its Chaine des Rotisseurs status and Wine Spectator accolade, Bosman's at the Grande Roche is not only an award-winning restaurant but one of the Cape's most beautiful settings for fine cuisine and good wine.
