Midrand tourism association launches this week

Identified as one of the eight tourism nodes in the Johannesburg area, and with the full backing of the Johannesburg City Council and the Johannesburg Tourism Company, Midrand will launch its Tourism Association on November 5.

In keeping with the official national policy that tourism should be government led, business driven and community based, the launch of the Midrand Tourism Association - and long term implementation of initiatives - will be driven by the Midrand Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a business chamber which serves primarily the Midrand, Centurion and surrounding metropolitan areas.

"The Association's core activity will be as a facilitator, utilising the contacts, resources and voice of the Chamber to create opportunity for empowerment of travel and tourism related stakeholders in Midrand and surrounds," says Anthony Shkaidy, MCCI Executive Committee Member, and Project leader for the initiative. "Ultimately, we are establishing a body that will set standards of excellence for all travel and tourism related industry in the greater Midrand area."

Among the unique tourism treasures that Midrand has to offer are a number of townships which to date remain untapped for their contribution to SA's township culture offering to National and International tourists alike. One of the exciting projects on the MTA's cards is the establishment of a Township Tourism initiative, which will facilitate access to this unexplored tourism nugget.

Interested parties and stakeholders are invited to attend the launch of the Midrand Tourism Association at Gallagher Estate on the 5th of November. Beneficiaries will include all travel and tourism related entities that are based in Midrand as well as suppliers to Midrand-based industries such as tourism operators, hotels, guesthouses, B&Bs, tourism transport industries, owners and operators of tourist attractions, conference and exhibition centre managers, event organisers, cultural and entertainment organisers and eco-tourism entities.
