Night of 1000 Drawings raises R100,000 for charity
During one of South Africa's biggest art-for-charity events, 1,422 people turned out to support 1000 Drawings on Thursday 10 November at Joziburg Lane, raising R100,000 for charity.
The 2016 #GiveADoodle Campaign resulted in 6,582 doodles being donated and put on sale for R100 at Night of 1000 Drawings. The event focused on the art, but those looking to party were not disappointed. Three bands performed, two DJs spun the decks and for the foodies there were 12 unique food vendors on site offering everything from artisan pizza to delectable seafood.
Other popular sideshows were artist Stefan Smit painting live, Anthea Moys doing an interactive portrait exchange, a live tattoo artist working his vivid magic and the support of the 52 volunteers helping on the night, looking fabulous in their 1000 Drawings t-shirts donated by Sharpie.
Thanks to the generosity of the Jozi people, suppliers and volunteers, the money raised will be going to Streetlight Schools. Last year, it built new classrooms with the money raised and we look forward to seeing them progress even further in 2017.
