Algoa FM's Big Walk paints new picture for kids' cancer in EC
Algoa FM and partner, Sun Boardwalk, presented Igazi Foundation with a cheque to the value of R315,000 at Provincial Hospital on Wednesday, 3 December.
The ceremony was hosted on the third floor of Provincial Hospital in Port Elizabeth, which will be the new home to the Eastern Cape Paediatric Oncology Ward from February 2015.
The event, which was held for the sixteenth time in October 2014, has set the benchmark for mass participation events in the region.
A record of approximately nine thousand people took part in the event on Saturday 25 October, raising a record amount.
"The walk has exceeded the expectations of both the organisers and the walkers. It truly delivered on its promise of a quality entertainment and lifestyle experience", says MD of Algoa FM, Dave Tiltmann.
"It was an honour for us to be part of this amazing event and to make a real difference in the lives of all children affected by cancer in the Eastern Cape," says General Manager of Sun Boardwalk, Brett Hoppé. Most importantly, we know the funds raised will be used effectively".
"Algoa FM and Sun Boardwalk will purchase the equipment and other additional requirements to have the 25-bed ward ready and set-up at Provincial Hospital by 2015", says Tiltmann.
"Thanks to everyone who participated in the walk, to Algoa FM for continually being a champion and voice for cancer-issues in our province and Sun Boardwalk for their support," says Dr Neil Littleton, founding member of the Igazi Foundation.
The Igazi Foundation will once again serve as the beneficiary in 2015 to Algoa FM's Big Walk for Cancer.
