YOU Spectacular 2013: The winners

The show aims to celebrate local talent and pay tribute to favourite personalities including sports icons, comedians, actors, presenters and music stars. YOU editor Linda Pietersen says the event has not only become a highlight on the SA entertainment calendar, it is an opportunity for readers to feel more in touch with the stars they see on screen, stage and sports field. "The fact they vote for their favourite celebs makes them feel closer to them," she says. "The Spectacular is also the magazine's chance to pay tribute to the people who fill our pages. It's a great event."

After weeks of campaigning by the nominees, it was ultimately the public who would decide the winners. Thousands of votes poured in and the winners for each category were announced at the ceremony on Saturday night.

Guests were entertained by live performances from some of the country's biggest music stars including Lira, ChianoSky, Mi Casa and Jack Parow.

Presenters included The Real Goboza's Pearl Thusi, Idols host ProVerb, Carte Blanche's Devi Sankaree Govender and Top Billing's Jeannie D and Bonang Matheba.

A special tribute was made to former president Nelson Mandela. Madiba has been an inspiration to YOU and its readers for years and it was apt that the magazine honoured the father of our nation.
