South African jazz, Spanish flamenco at the Soweto Carnival
The 'Pale Ya Rona Carnival', which takes place in Mofolo Park in Soweto 4-6 June 2010, will end off with a music concert on Sunday 6 June from noon to 10pm. In addition to local stars Jonas Gwangwa, Thandiswa Mazwai, Selaelo Selota and rapper Prokid who will join the eclectic sounds of the Gauteng Jazz Orchestra, there is also the impassioned sonic grooves of Spain's flamenco music.
Thanks to sponsorship from the Spanish Embassy, lovers of eclectic musical fusions will enjoy a collaboration between Spanish artists Raimundo Amador, Antonio Rancapino, Tomasito, di Geraldo, Benavent, Pardo, Lin Cortes and home-grown talent Tshepo Mngoma, Bheki Khoza and the Soweto Spiritual Singers as they bring a Afro-flamenco sound to Soweto.
In addition to these musicians, there will also be acts from Algeria and Brazil at the annual festival.
