TEDxCapeTown explores Open Access Control

Now in its fifth year, TEDxCapeTown 2015 tackles the delicate and highly relevant paradox of openness, access and control. As a non-profit organisation dedicated to 'Ideas worth Spreading', TEDxCapeTown continues to challenge perceptions and engage their audience in worthwhile and forward thinking conversations.
TEDxCapeTown explores Open Access Control

The main event takes place on 15 and 16 August at the City Hall (thanks to venue partner Open Design ) and brings together speakers and audience members to explore the paradox "Open Access Control" in different contexts. For ticket information visit this link via Quicket.

What is the fine line between openness, access and control? Do constraints provide us with a safe and free society in which to thrive, or do they hinder our existence? We will be tackling these difficult questions and offering some alternative concepts at TEDxCapeTown 2015.

Our expert speakers have created engaging and exciting talks with topics ranging from colonising Mars and poetry in Africa to working with our healthcare system to reduce mortality rates. The day promises to be varied and offer inspired, insightful conversation starters with loads of opportunity to connect with fellow audience members and the speakers themselves.

Line-up for TEDxCapeTown includes speakers below and three surprise performances on 15 August by local artists:

    • Adriana Marais: My one-way ticket to Mars

    • Dr. Marlene Wasserman (Dr.Eve) - Cyber Infidelity
    • Braam Malherbe: #D.O.T. - Do One Thing
    • Dr. Heather Tuffin: Less than ideal
    • Ian Mccallum: Poetry and Nature: Voice For The Voiceless
    • Jill Farrant: Food Security from resurrection plants
    • Kelsey Wiens: Open: Designing for Trust
    • Kyle Louw: Roses, Violets, Preconceptions ... Poetry
    • Marek Dziembowski: Chasing the eclipse

About TEDx, x=independently organised event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.

These local, self-organised events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organised TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organised.*
