SAFREA event promises Twitter expertise, professional photos

The Western Cape chapter of SAFREA is offering members and interested parties an opportunity to 'Learn to use Twitter like a Pro', from veteran SAFREA member, Ray Joseph, a well-known trainer, mentor and fixer of newsrooms.

He is also convenor of HacksHackers Cape Town, a worldwide movement that facilitates collaboration between journalists and techies, actively working to help embed a culture of data journalism in South Africa's newsrooms.

Using Twitter professionally

Joseph is one of the South Africa's Twitter pros and is the person to listen to when it comes to using Twitter professionally, to boost freelance businesses or causes. He will show attendees how to use this platform to do research, get sources for stories, get clients, find stories, create networks that lead to work contracts, boost one's organisation or movement and build one's brand.

In addition, Safrean photographer Anna Morris will be doing quick portraits from 5:30pm onwards for those needing professional shots for websites and social media. The cash fee of R150 allows two photos to be emailed. Each shot will be in two sizes: low res (email) and high res (print). Additional poses will be R110 per portrait. A make-up artist will also be on hand for R50.

The event takes place at the Blah Blah Bar, 84 Kloof Street Cape Town from 5:30pm on Wednesday 29 October 2014. Attendees should bring their laptops to have access to their Twitter account. Safrea members are free, non-members will pay R40 - RSVP: moc.liamg@pvsraerfas.
