Quills gets South African judge

The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) has once again selected Daniel Munslow, Talk2Us chief strategic communications officer, to sit on the judging panel of the 2010 IABC Africa Gold Quill Awards. The awards, which run concurrently in the various regional chapters, recognise international best practices in strategic communication.

“Having judged both the regional and international awards, it has been a privilege to be exposed to some of the best thought processes of the world's top communicators. When judging the Quills, we look at two main parts - the work plan or strategic insight; and the work sample or the actual material produced based on the strategy. We find that it is one thing to have a good plan, but the execution must show follow through and true measurement,” says Munslow.

“Judging the media relations category last year at international level, it was great to see that communicators are moving away from the use of monetary units of measure and are choosing instead to focus on impact and tangible return. In other words, what the campaign has done to benefit the business, not just the number of articles that were published.”

Entries are judged on technical excellence, creativity and innovation, effectiveness in identifying and responding to an organisation's or community's needs, the delivery of measurable outcomes and the overall success of a project.

Individual recognition will be given to international winners at the Gold Quill Awards gala at the IABC's World Conference being held in 6-9 June 2010 in Toronto, Canada, that Munslow will attend.
