Staying true to its roots, the drink is still manufactured and bottled in South Africa in the Western Cape apple orchards of Elgin, situated in the beautiful fynbos floral kingdom. Appletiser (along with Tiser variants, such as Red and White Grapetiser and Peartiser) has received recognition and awards in many countries over the years for its great taste and natural appeal.
The most recent are two 2008 awards from the New Zealand Juice & Beverage Association (NZJBA). Appletiser won the Carbonated Soft Drink category and scooped the Supreme Award, which recognises the premium beverage across all categories in the country.
“It's a real honour to be recognised in this way by the NZJBA,” says Andrea Shuttleworth, the brand's marketing manager. “The awards offer more evidence that people really love our product, no matter which market you're talking about and to have won the Supreme Award is an especially great honour.”
The NZJBA represents New Zealand's juice, CSD and bottled water manufacturers and the awards effectively act as custodian for the New Zealand beverage sector by showcasing the innovation, quality and range of beverages available to the New Zealand consumer. The winners were announced at the association's recent conference in Taupo, with 91 entries received in 12 categories.
The judging criteria for the Supreme Award are taste, fidelity and overall appeal with the winner being the product that stands out as the most excellent example in each category. Appletiser's New Zealand partner and distributor, Frucor, also garnered recognition at the awards. New Zealand's largest juice producer, Frucor walked away with awards in eight of the twelve categories.
