    Make static surfaces interactive

Media Republic is launching the iSURFACE platform, which reportedly allows for any static surface to be transformed into a responsive or interactive media platform, in southern Africa, the Johannesburg-based alternative media company announced yesterday, Tuesday, 2 September 2008.

“The iSURFACE concept is mind-blowing. You have to see it to believe it,” commented Dion Mulder, MD of Media Republic. “Think of the movie Minority Report and the interactivity with the touch screen concept in that film. Now bring that technology to a bar surface, wall or floor and you will have a good idea of the basis of the iSURFACE technology.

“Add an interactive product recognition software element and you've just scratched the surface of the branding experience potential we have. Now consumers can really engage with a brand, and marketers are able to share their product or brand personality and characteristics in a whole new way. The future of consumer engagement has arrived!”

Users will be able to interact via a touch-surface technology, in allegedly absolutely any environment, that incorporates two-way engagement; the software technology use patented recognition software to recognise and interact with surface-users.

The iSURFACE™ concepts are new to the South African market and allow for the integration of all existing media platforms. Combining static imagery, video, sound, Bluetooth, web connectivity and instant messenger technologies, the software is customisable and can be used to create collaborative, experiential campaigns not thought possible under the current technological environment.

The technology can be used across a variety of platforms, including retail point-of-sale, mall activations, airports, exhibitions, corporate and specialised events, university campuses and in nightclubs.

The international award-winning software technology was invented by European company Mindstorm.
