SAB journalism awards announced
Beeld's Elise Templehoff and Annelise Burgess of SABC TV's Special Assignment programme were named overall winners of The South African Breweries Environmental Journalists of the Year awards.
Templehoff, the Print Media winner, and Burgess who won the Electronic Media category, each received a cheque for R7 000 from SAB's corporate affairs director, Bongiwe Njobe, at a function in Johannesburg.
A representative of the judging panel says: "Burgess's documentary Sold Out pointed to the irony of windowless casinos in prime scenic areas, and dense housing projects that obliterate the attractive southern Cape coast scenery."
On the winners podium was also Donald Guy, veteran documentary filmmaker, who won the R10 000 Nick Steele Memorial Award.
Merit awards of R1 000 each were made to editor of the magazine Progress Kristina Gubic; Peter Borchert, editor and publisher of Africa Birds and Birding, and Africa Geographic; and Ockert Venter and Mike Vincent of SABC TV2's 50/50.
