It's all about B®anding with new mag

Three of the media, marketing and advertising industry's editors have joined forces to launch a new print magazine for the creative industry, called 'B®AND', which will focus on 'brand building from the inside out... showcasing the best of South African design and advertising'.

Going up against the current industry print 'bible' for the industry, Primedia's ADvantage, edited by the legendary John Farquhar, Di Paice is the Editor (ex-Advantage), Herman Manson (MediaToolbox) is Associate Editor and Kim Penstone (ex-Marketingweb) is the Jo'burg editor. Simon Borchart has been appointed to advertising sales.

The magazine with the catchy title aims to (according to the ratecard):

  • Provide factual reporting about brand building from the inside out.
  • Profile thought leaders in the business of brands and the creative industry.
  • Showcase the best of South African design and advertising in high quality format.
  • Provide comparative, qualitative information on media.
  • Reflect significant trends in key consumer markets.
  • Capture innovation.
  • Provide a directory of a wide range of marketing communication services by acting as a vehicle for smaller advertisers.

The publication has a print run of 3200 and is due out in the first week of November 2005. The database is similar to the one most of the industry print media use (ADvantage, Marketing Mix, The Media) from the list companies that service this industry and it will be interesting to see how B®and differentiates itself. Editorial excellence and a thought leadership platform will no doubt be the start.

The creative industry has long called for fresh blood in B2B print publishing in this industry, seeing the current incumbents as 'stale' and not meeting industry needs in showcasing creativity. The new, highly specialist and innovative 'Design' magazine is the only one, according one industry pundit, that has lately come close to pushing the publishing envelope, so to speak.
