SA judges at John Caples Awards

According to chief international judge Duncan Gray, the John Caples Awards are a global event where creatives tackle common marketing problems and South African participation enhances their diversity. He was commenting on the invitation to South African creatives Glynn Venter and Nina Daniel-Gruber to judge the 32nd John Caples Awards in New York in November 2009.

The awards honour the best in direct and interactive marketing around the world and are open to agencies, clients or individuals involved in direct and relationship marketing communication.

“We're excited to have South Africa represented by Glynn Venter and Nina Daniel-Gruber judging, drinking and discussing all things DM,'' he said.

Venter, the award-winning executive creative director at DraftFCB Cape Town, is no stranger to the Caples having previously judged the direct marketing awards. He has also been a judge at Cannes Lions, (France), D&AD (London) and the Loeries (South Africa).

Fellow judge Daniel-Gruber, executive creative director at BrandsRock, is an award winning creative who has judged the Loeries three times. Together with partner, Mike Joubert, she recently launched BrandsRock Marketing - a full-service strategic marketing agency. “Being selected to judge international awards like Caples shows the high regard in which South African creatives are regarded internationally.”

Peter Bidenko, responsible for selecting jury members from Australia, Asia Middle East and Africa says South Africa was a worthy addition to the annual awards. “After judging the Loeries last year, I saw such a high standard of work coming out of South Africa. We look forward to Glynn and Nina's contribution to the judging panel in New York,” he said.

Previous SA judges include creatives Stuart Stobbs from Studio 4332 and Xolisa Dyeshana from Joe Republic.
