TBWA loses Woolies

Cape Town advertising agency TBWA\Fusion and Woolworths have mutually agreed to part company, effective 30 September 2006, after having been in discussions. This was confirmed today, Wednesday 24 May, 2006, by Nicky Swartz, MD of TBWA\Fusion, the group's Cape Town advertising agency. "The main reason attributed to the split is the recent inability of the two companies to agree on a new creative direction," says Swartz.

This brings to an end a long relationship that saw Woolworths grow to become one of South Africa's most-recognised retail brands.

Mike Bosman, CEO of TBWA\ South Africa adds, "The time has come where our group has moved beyond simply collecting brands, to a more strategic business formula where big ideas drive profitable accounts, and clients that are willing to go for big ideas which make business sense for both them and the agency.

"Needless to say, we will now take this opportunity to consolidate our position in Cape Town and review our alternatives," continues Bosman. "At the same time we will continue to put 100% effort into the Woolworths account until we hand over to the new agency of their choice."

"I would like to congratulate the team at TBWA\Fusion and most recently TBWA\Hunt Lascaris for their work on this account and wish Woolworths every success for the future," concludes Bosman.
