Videovision and Frans Marx to produce new drama series
Videovision Entertainment, the leading independent production and distribution compan headed by Anant Singh, will be producing a new drama series, titled The Res, as a joint venture with Egoli creator Frans Marx.
The series focuses on a once grand house whose owner falls on hard times after the mysterious disappearance of her husband. Concerned about providing for her teenage daughter she decides to make the house available as a residence for a culturally and ethnically mixed bunch of twenty-somethings who attend a nearby technikon. They dub the house The Res and it soon becomes a hotbed of student issues, agendas, traumas and love affairs that are characteristically South African. The series will become part of the weekly offering on SABC2 next year.
Videovision has been actively involved in the production of feature films in South Africa, and has made more than fifty films since its establishment eighteen years ago. It has secured international distribution for all the feature films it has produced, including some of the most profound films ever to come out of South Africa, such as Sarafina! and Cry, The Beloved Country. The company expanded its activities to television production three years ago when it acquired the South African rights to the international hit game show, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? which it produced with great success for the local market. Videovision Entertainment has also secured the international rights to the popular M-Net daily soap, Egoli, which it has been selling to television channnels abroad.
