Pick n Pay is expanding its Smart Shopper offering with a paid subscription that takes rewards beyond the supermarket aisle, bringing grocery shopping, clothing deliveries and fuel purchases into one membership.
Extending rewards beyond the grocery shop
The subscription connects several spending categories under one rewards structure, including groceries, clothing and fuel. For regular online shoppers, delivery savings form a significant part of the proposition.
Pick n Pay estimates that four grocery deliveries a month would represent R148 in delivery fees, exceeding the R99 subscription price before additional discounts and points are factored in.
Pro also works alongside the retailer's free Live Well Club, which offers triple points and additional cash-off vouchers on more than 1,000 products associated with healthier choices.
Where the two programmes overlap on qualifying products, including fresh fruit, vegetables, fish and chicken, members can earn up to six times the standard Smart Shopper points.
A paid tier with four key benefits
Smart Shopper Pro costs R99 a month at its launch price and adds four benefits to the existing free Smart Shopper programme:
- Unlimited free asap! grocery and clothing deliveries on orders over R350.
- Triple Smart Shopper points on fresh groceries, including fruit and vegetables, bakery, butchery and dairy, both in-store and on asap!.
- An additional 10% off in-store shopping, capped at R200 a month.
- Double Smart Shopper points on bp fuel purchases.
Customers can sign up through the asap! app, with the subscription sitting alongside the existing free-to-join loyalty programme.
Building on an established loyalty programme
Smart Shopper Pro builds on the benefits already available to all Smart Shopper members, including instant savings, cashback points, personalised discounts and additional rewards through the retailer's Live Well, Coffee, Baby, Pet and Wine Clubs.
“Customers are increasingly looking for practical ways to make their money go further, and Smart Shopper Pro gives them more opportunities to get value from their everyday spend across groceries, clothing and fuel,” says Vince Viviers, executive: innovation and digital transformation at Pick n Pay.
The introduction of a paid tier adds another layer to Pick n Pay's existing loyalty offering, giving customers the option to pay a monthly fee in exchange for additional savings and delivery benefits.
Smart Shopper remains free to join, while Pro is an optional subscription available at a launch price of R99 a month.
