Show profile Hide profileI have experience working in publishing, proofreading, writing, research, politics and education. I am highly articulate, an excellent communicator both orally and in the written word. I stay well-informed on local and global issues and am an ardent reader of fiction. Fully computer literate, I have worked with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop and enjoy being involved in layout and the visual aspect of publishing.
My overall career goals are to work on an editorial staff, ideally in NPOs, book publishing or magazines. However, I also aim to undertake extensive graduate studies in the future. Having interests in education, literature, literacy and psychology, I hope to combine elements of these in future research. One of my deepest desires is to cultivate a love of reading in young people, and am considering entering teaching at some point.
I speak conversational German and have a knack for language learning. I studied Latin and French at university and high school levels respectively. As the roots of English lie heavily in these languages, I have an impeccable understanding of English grammar and a wide vocabulary.
I have a not-so-secret obsession with the New York Times crossword and one of my great hobbies is compiling fun, themed crossword puzzles. I currently employ my writing talents in what is the most creative aspect of my personal life: songwriting. I have a passion for storytelling and present unusual, fresh perspectives on life through whimsical folk music. I'm in a band based in Cape Town where I live and work.
