MMX17 makes the case for community radio
Commercial and public service media role-players joined Mams FM and Alex FM at the US Consulate General's Menell Media Exchange 2017 conference (MMX17) in Bryanston, Johannesburg. The conference forms part of several academic exchanges and professional development programmes supported by the US Mission, which are aimed at promoting dialogue and encouraging mutual understanding between Americans and South Africans.
US-based Duke University also showcased the Children's Radio Foundation (CRF) and its expertise on best practices for community media, which also involved a pop-up studio where the young reporters were able to interview leaders in the media industry.
