MTN Uganda gives back - Amuria Water Project
Last year the marathon raised UShs. 230 million towards the provision of clean and safe water for the people of Amuria in partnership with WaterAid as an implementing partner. Amuria was selected as one of the most remote areas with a definite need for access to clean and safe water.
The six month project was launched in May will see 10,000 people in the remote villages of Willa Sub county access clean and safe drinking water as well as promote a better sanitation culture.
The function which was attended by the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Forum for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Ngora Woman MP Jacqueline Amogin saw the commissioning and handover of a number of water facilities that included 6 boreholes, 24 rain water jars, 5 ferro cement tanks and 509 Bio sand filters to the communities.
MTN Chief Executive Officer-Mazen Mroué said that MTN Uganda is committed to changing the lives of Uganda's in the less privileged and marginalised communities through its various corporate social responsibility initiatives and commended everyone who contributed to the successful implementation of the water project.
