The Tsunami and the SA Eagle ad
Given the scale of the horror left in the wake of the Tsunami, you'd think that SA Eagle would place a different ad... but no.
Today's Mail & Guardian includes an SA Eagle ad featuring a man holding a bunch of roses, standing on top of a telephone booth as a city is engulfed in water.
Now, Outsurance was criticised for flighting an ad that showed a wave washing possessions away. They might have had an excuse - possibly there wasn't time to pull it. But SA Eagle has no excuse at all. Why not use another of their images? Did they deliberately select this particular execution because they thought it was relevant?
If so, they are demonstrating a remarkable lack of sensitivity.
