Karima Brown appointed New Age deputy editor

Taking up the position of deputy editor of The New Age newpaper on 2 August 2010 will be Karima Brown, currently the political editor of Business Day, TNA Media announced late Wednesday afternoon, 28 July.

This is the first senior appointment since Vuyo Mvoko was announced as the paper's editor-in-chief.

Mvoko is looking forward to working with Brown as she brings both integrity and a wealth of experience to the newspaper. "The New Age is going to seek the best people in the field and this is an indication of the newspaper's commitment to excellence," he says.

Brown has been political editor of Business Day for over four years. Before that, she was a political correspondent for Independent Newspapers between 2004 and 2005 and executive producer for Current Affairs at SAfm at the SABC between 1996 and 2004.

Enthuses Brown, "It is a daunting task but it is also an exciting one and I believe The New Age newspaper will bring increasing diversity to the media landscape in South Africa in both content and ownership. The New Age will be about excellence and we will be involved in the critical conversations about the country, its progress, its successes and its many challenges."
