Local wine extends overseas reach
The first Fairtrade wine to be available in Norway, and one of the most recognisable, Thandi Wines is now sold from 50 retail outlets in the Vinmonopolet chain. Its distribution is managed by V&S Group, a top ten international wine and spirits company whose own brands include Absolut vodka.
Thandi Wines’ Norwegian launch was held in September 2006, at a press event attended by Ismail Coovadia, the South African Ambassador to Norway.
Thandi Wines brand manager Rydal Jeftha says, “Our growth in Norway is a major plus for Thandi, and attests to the quality of the brand. We hope to see this follow through to the rest of the Nordic region.”
Also on the rise is the Danish market, which has shown strong interest in Thandi Wines. A container of pinot noir has recently been shipped, with further orders expected to follow.
