As the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site is set in a predominantly Setswana speaking part of South Africa, it is fitting to give the Visitor Centre a local name and it has been officially named 'Maropeng' the Setswana word that refers to "returning to the place of origin."
Maropeng chose outdoor sites as part of their marketing thrust. The 'who's your daddy' Clear Channel Independent billboards feature an appealing gorilla to make their point.
