V&A is first to get 'green' credentials

The Heritage Environmental Management Company (Heritage) announced that the V&A Waterfront, which attracts more than 23 million visitors annually, was awarded the Heritage Sliver classification after a recent benchmark audit by Heritage.

"The V&A Waterfront has always been known as a world-class waterfront property and as Cape Town's premier destination to live, work, eat, sleep and play," said Colin Devenish, executive manager of operations of the V&A Waterfront. "We are committed to ensuring our environmental and sustainability measures and initiatives are at the forefront of all our business practices and deliver world-class standards and practices."

"We believe greening our operations is the right and responsible way to operate," Devenish said, "we also realise the efficiencies and cost savings that greening our operations provide." According to Cape Business News, the V&A Waterfront management aims to achieve Heritage's Gold status within the next year through increased awareness generation and the implementation of more sustainable practices across all its operations.
