Natural beauty at GojiSpa
It can be somewhat of a daunting experience getting your hair done at a new place from a new person who might not be attuned to your particular hair quirks. There's always that fear that your requests for just a trim and subtle colour update will be misinterpreted and you'll end up with streaky badger hair that you can't tie in a ponytail.
But then there is also that possibility that this new hairdo will transform your hair, your face, your life into something far more fabulous. A haircut to save the day, to mend a broken heart, to inspire newfound confidence. I've yet to receive such a magical unicorn hair treatment, but at least I can say that, on a scale from crying angry tears and hiding your head in shame to lets share my new hair goddess status with the world, my post-salon experience at the GojiSpa in Tyger Valley fell more into the positive hair outcome scale of things.
Follically Kind
GojiSpa is the sole SA distributor and flagship salon for the environmentally and follically kind Organic Colour Systems products, which I had previously encountered and enjoyed at the Swordfern Hair and Beauty Emporium. Organic Colour Systems promises long-lasting colour utilising natural ingredients and the least amount of harmful chemicals. GojiSpa exclusively uses this range and is cautious and thorough in its testing and use. Before my hair was touched I had to have an allergy test done to make sure my skin wouldn't react negatively to the product. A dab of the dye was placed on my wrist and covered with a bandage that had to remain on for two days. Once removed, my skin was slightly discoloured and a little dry; however a few days later it was back to normal and a booking for a trim and colour was made.
It's been a few days since my hair treatment and I have definitely grown into it. A hydrating treatment, a few more blonde streaks and root coverage, as well as trim, has left my hair soft and bouncy. While there I also purchased the delicious smelling Organic Colour Systems Power Build shampoo and conditioner, which promises to add strength and volume to hair and help retain the colour; after just two uses it seems to be living up to its promise.
Treatments for every taste
GojiSpa, however, is not only about hair - it also offers a fully equipped spa where anything from hot stone massages to facials and teeth whitening are on offer. When visiting the salon for my consultation and allergy test I was lucky enough to test out the massage side of things. A 30-minute Deep Swedish Tissue back, neck and shoulder massage relieved the tensions of the working day and made the trip from town to Tyger Valley well worth the drive.
As the local champion of Organic Colour Systems, Goji Spa is putting its name at the forefront of promoting environmentally kind products for hair and beauty that nourish rather than damage. An ethos I believe we will start seeing in a lot more South African spas and salons in the near future.
GojiSpa also offers corporate wellness packages, including workshops and mobile spa treatments with great discount offerings if you become a corporate member.
