Building for reality TV
The names of the four couples, who will be selected from the more than 2000 entries, will be revealed on 26 July 2005.
Cashbuild's chief executive, Pat Goldrick, says the selection of the site has also resulted in the confirmation of the value of the prizes: "The winning couple will keep the house they have built, which is valued at more than R1 million. In addition, the developers, Paldan Development SA (PTY) Ltd, will sponsor a second home to the value of R1 million for a viewers' competition."
The weekly show, which commences on SABC 2 on Thursday 11 August at 6pm, will be co-hosted by Fezile Mpela and Eliose Cupido, while Cashbuild's building coordinator Michael Beukes will provide advice and guidance to the contestants and viewers.
The idea for the show evolved out of the overwhelming response to viewer's requests for DIY information on the current Weekend Life and Leisure programme on SABC 2 on Saturdays, which is sponsored by Cashbuild: "The response to the programme demonstrates an enormous demand for technical advice and DIY solutions."
Goldrick says Cashbuild, which currently has 134 stores throughout Southern Africa, has always been committed to offering specialist advice and the lowest prices on building material to its customers: "The building process can be a frustrating and complicated task for the layman and On Site is yet another way of extending our expertise to a wider audience."
