Further developments in SABC interdict

The SABC announced yesterday, Wednesday, 18 July 2007, that the urgent application it brought against Broad Daylight Films and Ben Cashdan (the respondents) in respect of the unlawful screenings of the Mbeki Documentary, which was scheduled to be heard in Court yesterday, would be removed from the court roll at the SABC's request.

This was on the strength of an undertaking received late the previous night from the respondents' attorney.

Continues the press statement: “The SABC, as the rightful owner of the documentary still intends to screen the documentary on SABC3 on a date to be announced.

“Stringent steps will be taken against any party which undermines the SABC's ownership of the documentary and the large financial investments we made in its production.

“No party is entitled to act in any manner which diminishes the value of the property of the SABC without any consequences.”
