Following last week’s announcement that certain international SABC shows like Dr Phil will be scrapped altogether with others shifting out to different timeslots in a bid to promote local content and the resulting reaction from those in the know – some going as far as to hack the SABC’s website – the SABC is making headlines again.
This time, for the announcement that acting CEO Jimi Matthews has handed in his resignation, with immediate effect.
This comes after a two-day reprieve over allegations of censorship from the Independent Communications Authority and lots of social media uproar over the SABC’s decision to withhold protest footage.
The Mail & Guardian quotes Matthews as stating on his Twitter profile “that he can no longer be a part of 'what is happening at the SABC”.
Twitter has lit up with mentions of this, ranging from the approving to the sceptical…
