Cape Town honoured in Travel + Leisure World's Best Awards
Cape Town is rated as the fourth Top City in the World and Top City in Africa and the Middle East according to the Travel + Leisure World's Best Awards. Travel + Leisure magazine readers rated their travel experiences according to a questionnaire developed by the magazine's editors.
CEO of Cape Town Tourism, Mariëtte du Toit-Helmbold, comments, "Cape Town has consistently featured in the Travel + Leisure line-up and we are proud to maintain a top-of-mind position with the world's most avid travel lovers."
A secure spot on the luxury travel map
Five Cape Town hotels also featured on the Travel + Leisure World's Best Awards list. The Cape Grace was honoured as the 26th Top Hotel in the World, up from number 44 in 2012. For this reason the Cape Grace has also been included in Travel + Leisure's Hall of Fame.
In the category of Top City Hotels in Africa and the Middle East, Cape Grace came out tops, the Mount Nelson Hotel came in at number six, the Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa was 10th, the One & Only Cape Town was named 11th and the Victoria & Alfred Hotel was named 13th Top City Hotel in Africa and the Middle East.
Du Toit-Helmbold also notes that a number of the World's Best Hotel spots were claimed by premium South African safari lodges: "The prevalence of these exclusive hotels bodes well for the luxury market in Cape Town as many high-end safari travellers include a trip to Cape Town on their itinerary. The fact that they continue their journey in Cape Town in some of the continent's - and the world's - best hotels means Cape Town remains firmly on the luxury travel map."
