Toys, food and hope on the East Coast

Through the generosity of sponsors and donors, East Coast Radio's Toy Story 2005 campaign outdid all expectations and doubled the previous year's targets of 5 000 food hampers for HIV affected child-headed households and 45 000 new toys for all the children.

East Coast Radio and campaign partner Gift of the Givers were able to feed almost double the planned number of HIV-affected families for a period of one month and an estimated 70 000 toys were distributed to children.

Dawn Spencer, PRO for East Coast Radio, says: "The manner in which Toy Story has been embraced by the public, schools and business has been inspiring. We were able to ship thousands of additional food parcels - critical supplies for many families who are on the brink of starvation.

"This outstanding response is giving Toy Story the legs it needs to reach into the province and make a difference. We would like to say a heartfelt 'thank you' to the KZN Dept of Health, Vodacom, Rotary, Durban Deliveries, Independent Newspapers and Vector Logistics who devoted their time and energy into the campaign."
