Survey identifies Algoa FM's listenership

Algoa FM recently polled its listeners to establish listening patterns and preferences and found that 43% of them listen at work, 35% while driving to work and 18% first thing in the morning.

“We polled 4 545 listeners hailing from Port Elizabeth (68%) and East London (32%). Participants included men (36%) and women (64%) aged between 15 and 60 years old who completed an online questionnaire,” said the station's MD Dave Tiltmann.

“It appears our listeners are split almost evenly when it comes to those wanting to hear current hits (31%) and international artists (6%) with those who want to hear more golden oldies (40%). Eighteen percent want to hear more local artists,” he added.

Good news for the station's deejays is that 37% of listeners polled name them as the reason they tune to the station, while 39% said it was the music, 20% said news, sport and weather, 2% are interested in the competitions and a further 2% tune to the station for traffic updates.

Ratings for Algoa FM's presenters are high, with 98% saying they were “excellent” and “good,” 61% said they love the station's mix of familiar favourites and chart-topping hits and 14% of listeners said the music mix “hits the spot every time”.

“It is fantastic to know that 97% of listeners polled believe the radio station is delivering on its brand promise of ‘Your Music, Your World',” Tiltmann concluded.
