Radio veteran officially signs out

A new station manager hasn't yet been appointed. Bob Mabena, general manager for SABC Radio's Public Commercial Services portfolio, will be acting station manager in the interim.

“It is always sad to say good bye, and I am leaving earlier than originally announced. However, new horizons beckon and I feel now is the right time for me to sign out. Good Hope FM will always be in my blood and I will stay close to it, as I will be located in the Cape. I am glad to have made a contribution to the station that makes it ‘all good' for Cape Town,” says Anthony.

Anthony was instrumental in setting up South Africa's first independent radio station, Capital 604 in 1979 having studied at the National Broadcast School in London. In 1989, he was invited by the Dutch Government to represent the commercial radio sector in South Africa to start mapping out the future of radio in a post-Apartheid South Africa.

Apart from managing radio stations, Duke has represented the SABC in MAPPP-SETA related learning programmes, written radio learnerships; as well as helping to write the SABC Radio music policy. He represented SABC on local content representations to ICASA.

Duke, who will be going into consultation on the continent, commented: “Good Hope FM's future is in very capable hands and will stay a force to be reckoned with in the Western Cape”.
