UNISA student broadcasts on Thai radio website
University of South Africa (UNISA) student Irshaad Gangat (21) has been presenting Out of Africa, a show about local African affairs, live from East London, South Africa, on www.RadioBangkok.net since February 2007. He also presents Bollywood Beat, which covers the latest news in the Indian film industry.

Gangat broadcasts from East London in his built-in radio studio at his residence. “I record my African News and Bollywood Beat slots and edit them myself. I then transfer the mp3 files using a ALTPF uploading system which uploads onto the playlist automatically,” he says.
However, he intends to do special feature reports on festivals, events in Africa and conduct interviews once his studio is more fully equipped with broadcast equipment.
For now, he is currently reading towards his BA in Communication Science through UNISA and wants to build himself as a household brand in African news as he believes that much of it is ignored by local and international broadcasters.
“With Bollywood Beat, my mission is to set Asia alight with all the hot news and views from India’s film industry, Bollywood,” he concludes.
