Southern Sun transforms Elangeni & Maharani

The revamped Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani hotel represents Tsogo Sun's continuing commitment to Durban's Golden Mile. Commenting on this, mayor of eThekwini James Nxumalo says, "Private sector investment into the Golden Mile is essential to the revival of an area that has so much potential to bring local and international tourists flocking to KwaZulu-Natal. The refurbishment of the Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani hotel will ensure a significant boost for the beachfront as visitors are attracted by both the business and leisure facilities now offered by a complex that has achieved greatly improved aesthetics and enhanced service offerings, located in a convenient and spectacular position on the Golden Mile."

Fresh facilities

The first phase of the project, which has just been completed, includes the total refurbishment of the Maharani Tower, including the bedrooms, core infrastructure, conference centre and public areas; substantial new food and beverage offerings within the Elangeni Tower; the rework of the porte-cochère, creating a sense of arrival and better access to the complex; and the renovation of the building facades.

The complex facilities include 734 stylish bedrooms; two well-equipped gyms; three swimming pools, with one heated pool; free wifi connectivity; 15 meeting and conference rooms; two fully equipped business centres; and 11 restaurants and bars.

The restaurants include new offerings ranging from The Grill Jichana, the Panorama Bar & Pool Deck, and the Ocean Breeze Restaurant, to old favourites such as Daruma, Durban's iconic Japanese restaurant, the Lingela Restaurant and Piatto Mediterranean Kitchen.
