Capacity development has continuously been a priority for the CSIR ICC and the ICC has accommodated many in-service trainees over the years, some of whom are now permanently employed by the CSIR on a full-time or part-time basis.

This year's intake of students, Nothando Nkosi, Chris Mthombeni, Terry Koko and Voningo Ntsoane will be working in the various departments of the CSIR ICC for six months each and gaining knowledge in their respective fields in order to obtain their qualifications.

"Our in-service trainee programmes are aimed at addressing the skills shortage and are tailored to enhance the students' knowledge and offer them the necessary skills for employment in the hospitality industry", explains Bronwen Cadle de Ponte, CSIR ICC general manager.

The CSIR International Convention Centre urges other hospitality industry establishments to have such community involvement programmes to ensure that adequately skilled individuals are available for for employment.

"We wish our trainees well during their stay with us and believe it will be a mutually beneficial relationship", says Cadle de Ponte.
