Exciting campaign to equip classrooms in schools across the country

Amidst the unprecedented times of the global pandemic, the Adopt-a-School Foundation, a partner entity of the Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation, continues to work hard at improving education in South Africa. In May 2020, the foundation entered into an exciting partnership with ChairClub to provide school chairs in a 'Buy One, Get One' campaign. ChairClub, a Proudly South African and local South African chair manufacturer, partnered with the foundation in a campaign to support disadvantaged schools in rural and urban communities with comfortable world-class school chairs. Throughout 2020, for every office chair sale, ChairClub will donate a locally-manufactured school chair to schools across the country.

“The foundation believes in the power of collaboration. We are proud to have ChairClub on board and are excited about the ‘Buy One, Give One’ campaign. Over the last 18 years, we have mobilised the private sector to invest effectively in education. There are many avenues in which companies can support schools, of which this exciting campaign is one example,” said Steven Lebere, chief executive officer, Adopt-a-School Foundation.

The foundation works with donors in 615 schools, assisting with the transformation of schools into centres of excellence. Through the implementation of its Whole School Development (WSD) Model, the foundation ensures that marginalised schools are afforded development in leadership, infrastructure, social welfare and curriculum.

The investment of school chairs will improve the often-difficult conditions of classrooms. Both Adopt-a-School and ChairClub share the same values; to strive to address the inequalities and inadequacies in South Africa. “ChairClub manufactures international award winning chairs of highest global standards, right here in South Africa – creating jobs for South Africans, supporting the local economy, and playing an active role in skills development,” said ChairClub managing director, Travers Hathrill.

“Understanding the many challenges faced within the education sector in South Africa, particularly around cramped and under-resourced classrooms, we are excited about this campaign. We are committed to investing in education, to make a difference to the future of South Africa and grow future leaders of this country,” Travers continued.

Both Adopt-a-School and ChairClub are calling on corporates to join the movement and support the campaign by purchasing task chairs to afford seating solutions to learners in rural and urban areas of South Africa.

The donation will have a great impact on the foundation and the Department of Basic Education. Through the WSD model, the foundation believes in holistic solutions to ensuring excellence in quality teaching in their schools. Through the construction of classrooms across the country, this partnership will assist the Department of Basic Education in the provision of school furniture.

ChairClub already has a few donations lined up from their April and May Sales and will start delivering the new chairs to schools, once the National Lockdown has been lifted. Schools will receive the donations post-Covid-19 challenging times. We hope the new chairs will uplift the spirits of both learners and educators, and encourage them to continue the year 2020 with their heads held high.

The foundation applauds ChairClub for their initiative and commitment towards education. The foundation looks forward to matching these chairs to classrooms in need and providing support to learners in need.
