Tristan Waterkeyn, founder and MD of Overtone, recently gave a career-development talk to students at the SAE Institute, explaining how they could better access the music, entertainment and media industry by using the Overtone platform.

“Students are looking to kick-start their careers and they don't know how to go about it. Overtone's ‘Industry Access' account gives students the tools they need to further their careers in the entertainment industry,” Waterkeyn said.

In a survey conducted with SAE student representatives, 88 percent said that it was difficult to access the entertainment industry. When asked: “Would you benefit from our Direct Access to Industry system?” 100 percent of the students believed they would benefit from their access to the Overtone system.

General consensus

The general consensus was that it would not only give them the industry contacts that they need to further their careers, but also assist with the promotion of their own news, events, freelancer listings, and digital portfolios.

Overtone designed its “direct access to industry” service with entry-level professionals in mind with and the following objectives:

  • To provide direct access to the Music, Media and Entertainment Industry Directory
  • To put members in direct contact with key industry players, service providers, entertainers and media personnel
  • To provide access to job listings and opportunities
  • To access relevant industry news, tools, tips and forums

The SAE Institute students who took part of the discussions are part of an Audio Production and Sound engineering course and will complete their studies at the end of the year.
