Divas of Dance return to SA
Divas of Dance will be making a return trip to South Africa for four countrywide shows. Sonia, Lonnie Gordon, and Black Box will take their big booming beats, rhythmic guitars, and memorable melodies to the GrandWest Grand Arena in Cape Town on 4 November 2017, Emperors Palace in Johannesburg on 5 November 2017, the Boardwalk in Port Elizabeth on 10 November 2017, concluding at the Sibaya Casino in Durban on 11 November 2017.
Sonia’s career spans more than 20 years. Sonia released 15 singles, 11 of which were on the UK top 30. Her debut single You'll Never Stop Me Loving You reached number one on the UK charts back in 1989 and remains her highest selling single. Her debut album Everybody Knows sold over 500,000 copies in 1990. In 1993, Sonia represented the UK in Eurovision with her song Better the Devil You Know; it reached second place. Sonia also released five albums, with three of them reaching UK top 40.
Lonnie Gordon moved to the Bronx at an early age. In the early 1980s, she started performing around the Harlem area as the lead singer of a band called Nythjar. After meeting her husband, she relocated to England in the late 1980s, and retired from the music scene to take care of her daughter Rikki. Gordon resumed her singing career in 1988 by singing lead vocals for club-oriented acts such as Offshore, Déjà vu and, most notably, house ensemble Quartzlock. For her single, Happenin' All Over Again, Gordon collaborated with British hit-making team Stock Aitken and Waterman. Other hits include, How Could He Do This to Me, Beyond Your Wildest Dreams, and Gonna Catch You.
Black Box’s first single Ride on Time was an international hit, reaching the top 10 in many countries and number one in the UK. Charvoni Woodson has been the lead vocalist for the group since 1995. The album Dreamland was released in May 1990, which broke in the US as well as UK and the rest of the world. Dreamland earned a gold disc in both the UK and the US and achieved double-platinum status in Canada. In Australia, it spent three weeks at number one, achieved platinum accreditation, and was ranked as the country's 16th highest selling album of 1991.
